We may have come up short of a win in the 2016 race for the State House, but I am so proud of what we accomplished together. We outperformed anyone's expectations for the 40th district, with over 46% of the vote against a two term incumbent.
What this means is that our message --- for our families, our children, our environment, and our safety from gun violence --- resonated with the people of this community. I look forward to continuing to engage my neighbors on these issues, and building on the progress we've made together.
We gave voters in this district a real choice in this election, and we have asked these voters to hold their elected officials accountable to vote in accordance with their values, and we're already seeing our community doing that in spades --- through calls, letters, and marches.
I am grateful for the network of community members, politicians, activists, and organizers who I have met through this process, and I look forward with continuing to work with all of them to continue to fight for the progressive issues that matter to Michiganders.
